JR of Paris...
From the site: www.28millimetres.com –
"The photographer-activist, JR, converts his pictures into posters and transforms our streets into universal open-air galleries. From Los Angeles to Berlin, he keeps his independence and illegal exhibits in the streets, which he considers to be his very own gallery. After his first guerrilla exhibition on the walls of Montfermeil's ghetto's in 2004, JR settled down right in the heart of the district collaborating with Ladj Ly, inhabitant of the ghetto, actor and director from the collective, Kourtrajmé. Armed with a 28 mm lens, JR shot full frame portraits of young people from this neighbourhood and the nearby district of The Forestière (Clichy-sous-Bois). This no frills, straightforward technique allowed them to get very close to this generation. Interviewing them, without restrictions, on the recent events of November 2005. The first portraits were illegally pasted on the east walls of Paris, a district that was once run-down, but has now become a residency for the bourgeois bohemian, who are shielded from the flames. With a certain « in your face » rudeness, they provoke passers-by and question the social and media representation of a generation that people only want to see outside the doors of Paris or on the news..."
The site has a video of the situation and has some amazing photographs of people being people. I definitely thinks it’s worth a peep. LU23

FIRST FAM Das CEO speaks....
First, know what works with what- Don't be a label whore (unknowingly) and try to rock a stussy shirt, with a 10 Deep hoody. Don't try to wear a vintage fit Lacoste shirt, with a XL thermal. I mean this rule is about as basic as they come. This doesn't take maximum effort to figure out either, experiment with different brands, that don't collide with each other, think Lindberg T, clean pair of 575's and a cool pair of nike/streetwear collabo's (take your pick). That's a good look.
Second, ball in your price range- Don't drop 3 figures on a pair of jeans that you really can't pronounce, if you don't know the culture behind them. Learn to be a True Connessieur (exclusive property of High-End, btw), and educate yourself on the different brands. Find and wear lines that you can really identify with. Me, for example, I was introduced to TLFI by none other than my girl Kells, and she told me this was a line that I would identify with (for various reasons). After I conducted some research into the line and really saw that they seemed to be a real cool brand, I started to rock it (that was Summer of 06), so when I see this brand gaining exposure today, and reaching cult status, I can still relate to that line, and I can justify spending $250 on a hoody, ya dig.
Last, but definitely not least, keep your clothes up to their original glory. You are not in the second grade and go to recess in your clothes. Their is know reason your shirt shouldn't be crisp, and your jeans falling perfectly at your shoes, your shoes fresh out the box (1 to rock, 1 to stock, shouts to my true sneakerheads, circa.......... the Jordan years) Fashion............................................ is it really something you want to get into? -CEO, First Fam.

For those in the LA area: Opening Ceremony...is Opening...in LA.
Opening Ceremony has long held court as New York's top spot for out-of-the-ordinary urban togs. Armed with big-city street cred and an A-list following, owners and designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim recently took the store cross-country, setting up shop on West Hollywood's La Cienega. Though the racks are lined with the best New York labels, including Proenza Schouler, Mayle, and Nom de Guerre, the L.A. Opening Ceremony has a distinct and verifiably West-Coast identity that Humberto admits inspired OC's current line. "Our spring collection came from the idea of East Coast relatives meeting West Coast relatives," he says. As far as the actual store is concerened, it's gonna be slick.Track-home siding, ceramic elephants, hydraulic jewelry cases, animal floaties adorning mannequins and a labyrinthine arrangement that Humberto says "is meant to mirror driving in L.A.," create a store that's almost like it's own little neighborhood—an urban meets suburban nook designed for discovery.

Playing on both the different coasts of the U.S. that each call home (WK is NYC-based and Obey operates out of LA) as well as the geographic locations of the two shows, the pair bombed Tokyo together and separately before jointly creating the massive installation.

Wow! Who would have ever thought.....
After working with Yves Saint Laurent and departing to create a new menswear image for Dior Homme, Hedi Slimane will no longer be designing for the renowned line with the hopes of getting his own line started. As understood, negotiations started to go downhill when Slimane's contract ended last July. Dior was willing to back the Hedi Slimane Brand, but Slimane could not see giving up the the ownership of his name.As reported, differences over the estimated value of the Hedi Slimane Brand ultimately caused the stalemate.Dior is looking for the new look of it's men's wear. They have been looking to Kris Van Assche who has previously worked with Slimane for seven years. (Van Assche pictured)

Evisu keep's it real
The United States is set to receive it’s first North American Evisu flagship store this summer in New York’s SOHO district. This new store will give it’s shoppers the ability to acquire products never before available directly to the US public. Much like the Evisu stores in Japan, this new store will provide demonstrations of Evisu’s trademark Gullwing paintings on denim as well as give customers the chance to personalize their own denim.
Although this stores purpose is obviously a retailer first and foremost, it can also be considered an ever evolving gallery of Asian culture as well. There are plans to do exhibitions promoting various Asian artists with inaugural artist being large scale oil painter Simon Birch of Hong Kong. Concluding the list of interactive features is a proposed screening area to give some customers their first taste of Japanese films.

From our Friends at Upper Playground
Upper Playground in association with FIFTY24SF Gallery is pleased to present Show Me Your Heart
Never failing to deliver only the best in contemporary art, FIFTY24SF Gallery has brought together internationally-renowned photographers, Estevan Oriol and Yasumasa “Yone” Yonehara, for one highly anticipated exhibit. The show reveals the subcultures of Los Angeles and Tokyo interpreted through two vastly different camera lenses. Though they share the inspiration of beautiful women for this show, each image is a reflection of the artist’s own distinct professional and cultural backgrounds.
Estevan Oriol(www.estevanoriol.com) began his career in the entertainment industry in the late 80s as a club bouncer at several of Los Angeles’ most popular hip hop clubs and infamous Hollywood hangouts. In 1995 he began his exploration of photography, discovering his talent in capturing the raw essence of street life. Within a short time, he became featured in dozens of magazines worldwide including The Source, Details, Vibe, The Fader and Rolling Stone. Oriol is one of the creative directors and partners of SA Studios in Los Angeles, a creative agency he formed with recognized tattoo artist, Mister Cartoon. In addition to exhibiting his photography worldwide, Estevan still finds time to direct music videos for such groups as Cypress Hill, D12, Linkin Park and Blink 182 as well as feature films.
Yasumasa “Yone” Yonehara (www.loveyone.com) is the founder of Egg Magazine, a Japanese photo periodical that features a candid look at ganguro girls on the streets of Japan. He is known for his poloaroids of semi-erotic images of women which has landed him projects with American Apparel and editorals for magazines such as Dazed & Confused, Warp and Vice. As an editor, creative director and photographer, Yone has published numerous books and continues to exhibit worldwide.

Ty loves your mom....
What does "De Puta Madre" actually mean? To find out, I was able to assemble top lingual experts from Harvard, Princeton, and UDC to discuss the true meaning of the elusive phrase "De Puta Madre" Let's ask the experts....
Actaully...Let's not. Experts always give these 'ivory tower','over the top', and way to complicated answers...So screw em. Let's go to the man on the street...
I decided the best way to learn more about this phrase was to stand on the busy corner of Wisconsin and Mst here in DC. I would simply shout "DE PUTA MADRE" at the top of my lungs and wait for reactions from the crowds...From this experiment I learned that "De Puta Madre" might mean "please look at me with hatred" or "whisper to your friends while pointing at me" one gentleman was so taken with my prose he rushed me only to be stopped by his clearly jealous friends...the jury was still out, there were still too many possiblities. I decided to ask the one person who I trust...my mom. She cleared it up right away by telling me it is a sweet way of saying "Your Mom is Beautiful and Loves You". So to all our readers, clients and staff...
DE PUTA MADRE !
We went South
Yesterday Ruth and I made a trip to the land of milk and honey...The VB. We wanted to peep the stores in the area and get some ideas for future product and cultural events. We had an excellent adventure. While in the stores I had the staff show me thier favorite items and here is what we came up with.
Kristen of Military was a big fan of the new Rocksmith and Jeepney.
(Rocksmith)
(Jeepney)
Heather of Lynnhaven was excited about BB Dakota and Analog
(BB Dakota)
(Analog)
Daimond and Dionne of Military were on point with their love of the new Magazine "Antenna" This rag actually means something to the industry and client alike. The layout is clean, the styles are relevant, the articals are written with more than a bit of thought. I love this Mag. Check thier site at www.antennamag.com/
All the stores we visited looked great. Thanks for the trip.

We love B.J.
If you don't know who Betesy Johnson is...Shame on You. She has been driving fashion from behind the scenes since you were "knee high to a grasshopper". Her style is "whimsy couture" with a floral and lace overtone that is elegant but still remains realistic and approachable. And now she is doing the handbags we all knew she should... goto
It's Money....
On the other hand the British have done an amazing job with culture in general. STOP. I know what you are thinking…”The UK is a bunch of boring people who like to hunt foxes and riot at Manchester United Games.”….Which is absolutely true, except for those who live in London. The Londoner, in general, is one of the best dressed peoples in the world. Take the London based clothing line “MONEY” for example.
