I know what your're feeling...It's all good.

Ahh yes...the blog. Look at us all out here constantly checking the web to ses what is going on in the world of everything. We troll sites daily to see what is up with this and who is feeling that. We read the musings of folks that are just like us yet we give them authority because they are the one's telling us how it is. All these individuals and tribes give us a slice of thier world served up hot and fresh. But the questions of the "big picture", the whole pizza pie, are often lost, until now. "How is the world feeling today?" is a question that I have never asked myself yet I am acutely aware of it's mood somehow. We all have something to say about how we feel, but we can only hear a slice of general voice. Well now there are two sites that I have discovered that answer that question of questions: : 'What the hell were we thinking?" The way it works is this> A search engine sifts through hundreds of millions of blogs and looks for key words such as "I feel" or "I love" or "I hate" and captures the sentence that contains them. It also notes the city, weather, gender, and even age. This data is spun through a magical wonder contraption that shoves them all up onto the website in the form of prose. The sites also have graphs and charts for the "A-Type" personalities. love-lines.org has a cool slider at the bottom that shows the whole range from love to hate. Wefeelfine.org lists anything that starts with "I feel" and is a mix of emotions and convitions. Either way they are like a dipstick into the oil pan that is the human race. LU23

I think this gentleman know's what he's talking about

I just have to give a round of applause for Izzy being mentioned in the New York Posts' analysis on Dame Dash. According to the article published in the New York Post, Damon Dash has seen better days, but still commands some good lines, namely Pro-keds, which has seen sales double in the past year to over $22 million. Who better to give a comment that is so simple, yet so true than our own Izzy Ezrailson! "It's not that easy to hit a home run every time," was all Izzy had to say, and immediately I understood exactly what was being said. I think that Dame will be fine in the long run, I mean hey, he's still flying first class.............

Until next time 100!

JR of Paris...

Of all the street art out there, the one genre that stands out as the most refined is the poster. With posters, world known artists such as Banksy and Shepard Fairey (the creator of OBEY), have been able to do to walls what butter does to a baked potato. Most of their posters are illustrations, but I have discovered a guy from France that has taken it in a new direction.

From the site: www.28millimetres.com

"The photographer-activist, JR, converts his pictures into posters and transforms our streets into universal open-air galleries. From Los Angeles to Berlin, he keeps his independence and illegal exhibits in the streets, which he considers to be his very own gallery. After his first guerrilla exhibition on the walls of Montfermeil's ghetto's in 2004, JR settled down right in the heart of the district collaborating with Ladj Ly, inhabitant of the ghetto, actor and director from the collective, Kourtrajmé. Armed with a 28 mm lens, JR shot full frame portraits of young people from this neighbourhood and the nearby district of The Forestière (Clichy-sous-Bois). This no frills, straightforward technique allowed them to get very close to this generation. Interviewing them, without restrictions, on the recent events of November 2005. The first portraits were illegally pasted on the east walls of Paris, a district that was once run-down, but has now become a residency for the bourgeois bohemian, who are shielded from the flames. With a certain « in your face » rudeness, they provoke passers-by and question the social and media representation of a generation that people only want to see outside the doors of Paris or on the news..."

The site has a video of the situation and has some amazing photographs of people being people. I definitely thinks it’s worth a peep. LU23

I'm Rich B*tch....

Just want to thank all those who submitted the Essay for True Love False Idols' "I live a lifestyle I cannot afford" essay contest... They were all amazing. I sat in my over-stuffed leather chair in front of the fireplace in the grand hall here at the UATW estate; sipping on my Chateau de Laubade XO from a rare Swarovski Snifter; as my faithful mastif "Aris" slept at my feet. The essays reminded me of how we are all in the struggle for something we will never achieve... So let's forget the destination and enjoy the journey.

If you want to be anything the trick is simple: Fake it 'till you make it. That's what living a lifestyle you can't afford is all about.Thats why we all have dope closets. Thats why we get dressed. Ta'
LU23

FIRST FAM Das CEO speaks....

In order to maintain a healthy wardrobe, there are rules that one must follow. The rules are generally simple, and may be tailored to suit your lifestyle.

First, know what works with what- Don't be a label whore (unknowingly) and try to rock a stussy shirt, with a 10 Deep hoody. Don't try to wear a vintage fit Lacoste shirt, with a XL thermal. I mean this rule is about as basic as they come. This doesn't take maximum effort to figure out either, experiment with different brands, that don't collide with each other, think Lindberg T, clean pair of 575's and a cool pair of nike/streetwear collabo's (take your pick). That's a good look.

Second, ball in your price range- Don't drop 3 figures on a pair of jeans that you really can't pronounce, if you don't know the culture behind them. Learn to be a True Connessieur (exclusive property of High-End, btw), and educate yourself on the different brands. Find and wear lines that you can really identify with. Me, for example, I was introduced to TLFI by none other than my girl Kells, and she told me this was a line that I would identify with (for various reasons). After I conducted some research into the line and really saw that they seemed to be a real cool brand, I started to rock it (that was Summer of 06), so when I see this brand gaining exposure today, and reaching cult status, I can still relate to that line, and I can justify spending $250 on a hoody, ya dig.

Last, but definitely not least, keep your clothes up to their original glory. You are not in the second grade and go to recess in your clothes. Their is know reason your shirt shouldn't be crisp, and your jeans falling perfectly at your shoes, your shoes fresh out the box (1 to rock, 1 to stock, shouts to my true sneakerheads, circa.......... the Jordan years) Fashion............................................ is it really something you want to get into? -CEO, First Fam.

In my own Dojo........

A great jean with a great fit from Seven for All Mankind....
Versatile in both fit and style the Dojo’s 5-pocket, natural rise, hugs the hips and loosens slightly through the thigh to widen into a trouser leg. In addition to its distinct fit, the Dojo has a unique “7” swoosh embroidered back pocket design. Barcelona’s lightweight, medium blue denim has a subtle sheen and is slightly faded and whiskered with pinching along the pockets. A perfect “sneaker jean”, this silhouette looks clean and sophisticated when dressed up with stilettos.

I will now read from the Book of Denim, Chapter 12, Verse 9....

Denim lovers, the Denim Design Lab book is definitely an interesting item that deserves considerable attention. This book contains information about the history of denim, process of producing denim, denim terms, denim fabric, and features many brands such as Levis, Evisu, Disel, and many more. This book will provide a great amount of information for all those that want to learn more about denim. The book is now available at Amazon. Submitted by Chris P. of Whp14. Thanks Chris.

Levi's have a new sports apparel division Flu that is producing a range of jeans, t-shirt and jackets. The lightweight stretchy jeans above might look unusual but apparently they are ideal for people with an active lifestyle. As with a lot of Levi's more interesting items these are only available in Japan, where they can be bought from TabDevice. Source Honeyee.com

Another one of our own...doin' it well.

Everyone...meet Lloyd, Lloyd...this is everyone. Glad you guys could hook up. Lloyd uesd to work with us in the VB area. We are extra proud of Lloyd because he overcame the handicap of having that giant cartoon hand at the end of has left arm. We would stand by him as he would go ape-sh*t trying to re-engage clasps on the necklaces...he was always a trooper, and would get the job done in the end. Kudos Lloyd, you are in inspiration. Anyway Lloyd is a great skater in one of the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT AND INFLUENTIAL TOWNS IN THE WORLD when it comes to skate and surfing. The VB has put out so many great clothing lines because of the influence of the skate culture. Back in the day it was LA and VB...PERIOD. Lloyd is now a pro skater in this skate mecca. Shmack has signed him to do some spots for thier ad in Thrasher magazine. Shmack was also nice enough to give him a "distractor cleaver" (a device that gives a validy to a physical handicap...Think: Bob Dole's Pen.) and who wants to skate 'sans cleaver'? Not me. For those in the LA area: Opening Ceremony...is Opening...in LA.

Opening Ceremony has long held court as New York's top spot for out-of-the-ordinary urban togs. Armed with big-city street cred and an A-list following, owners and designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim recently took the store cross-country, setting up shop on West Hollywood's La Cienega. Though the racks are lined with the best New York labels, including Proenza Schouler, Mayle, and Nom de Guerre, the L.A. Opening Ceremony has a distinct and verifiably West-Coast identity that Humberto admits inspired OC's current line. "Our spring collection came from the idea of East Coast relatives meeting West Coast relatives," he says. As far as the actual store is concerened, it's gonna be slick.Track-home siding, ceramic elephants, hydraulic jewelry cases, animal floaties adorning mannequins and a labyrinthine arrangement that Humberto says "is meant to mirror driving in L.A.," create a store that's almost like it's own little neighborhood—an urban meets suburban nook designed for discovery.

This one goes out to the ladies...

So one of the problems with the world of "denimheads" (All the people who live and die by the musings of the high end denim market...ahem...ahh UATW people...you know who you are...) Anyway...So one of the problems with the world of "denimheads" is that there is no love for the ladies. All the 'collabo's' are geared toward men who are silly for that sort of thing. I could go into a diatribe on that subject, but I digress. I found a great resource for all things Ladies Denim out of England (who'd-a-thunk-it) which has tons of great info of all kinds on the hottest brands and cuts from the US and Europe. There are a gang of great pictures and links to brand profiles.
The site also has lots of info about brands, sizing, fit, celeb's, designers and just about everything. It also includes a great forum on fit and care...

Fellas- if you want to understand the mysterious realms of lady's denim, you shoud peep this too.

Cooper comin' at Ya.

Lee Cooper is a english denim brand that I remember being very big in the 70s and 80s. More recently I haven't heard too much from them but that could be set to change with the launch of their XFit Denim Collection for Autumn/Winter 2007. These jeans make use of XFIT LYCRA ® technology in a new type of denim that has a 360-degree stretch which ensure exceptional comfort and fit without losing shape.

Kilo Goods Spring Line = Flame on

Kilo Goods once again has blessed the masses with some dope flavors for the Spring. Their new Spring line takes inspiration from “the attitude of Miami lifestyle in the 80’s,” explains Erik Marino, co-founder of the brand. “It isn’t literally interpreted in the graphics but the color story and mood reflects that era of decadence and style.” The Spring collection is bound to turn heads on the street and in your local UATW.

Van Assche..........confirmed at Dior!

Recently confirmed to me by a source close to Van Assche, Kris will indeed be taking over for Hedi Slimane as the next director of Dior Homme! Stay posted for the official announcement

POINGGG! You've been served.

He made a fatal mistake. He rolled the ball with a little too much bounce, the kind of opportunity that you know you must take advantage of, the kind of bounce you can get your foot under “just so”. I was able to swing my “Roos” (the blue and whites with the side Velcro pocket) and boot that playground ball so hard back at him, that it passed though his attempt to catch it and made that wonderful empty “POINGGG” sound as it bounced hard off his chest. If you can’t tell what I’m talking about, move on to the next post. If you do, it means you loved the game of kickball as much as I did. I sucked at hoops, baseball, lacrosse, soccer, football and everything else, but in a kickball game, my skill sets garnered respect. Kids would move back, and that’s all a 6th grader needs to see to feel like he has reached the summit of Maslow’s pyramid. It’s that flavor, the taste of childhood and all that’s good with the world, that a new shop in Georgetown is going to bring. Next week will be the grand opening of “Kickballers”, a shop that will offer goods to those who skate, bomb walls, nod heads, and love to be. The owners, Lanir and Diallo are from the area and live the life they are catering to. I was able to sneak a peep at the shop, it’s gonna be dope. They can be found in the space that SMASH used to occupy on M Street. They will be open next week, so drop by, show them love and keep the playground ball going straight and at chest level…..POINGGG! (Below are pics of the empty store ('cept the one shoe there) and the owners Lanir (AD floral hoodie) and Diallo in the yellow shirt. They're good fellas.).....POINNNG. -LU23

Yamamoto vs. Mikimoto

Yohji Yamamoto will be creating a collection for Mikimoto's jewelry house. The two Japanese houses have joined forces to create a 20 piece Jewelry collection revolving aroung Mikimoto's featured gemstone the pearl. This is the first time Mikimoto will be collaborating with a fashion designer to create a collection of this caliber.
Yamamoto is known for his avant-garde clothing designs. He also designs the renowned y-3 line for Adidas...in which we carry at Up Against The Wall. _Thanks KS11 (YO!!! Click on the picture above for more amazing styles from the thier site.)

Style Watch: Cut & Sew

Mama is the latest brand to roll off their spring line with in addition to t-shirts have included a cut & sew line. Cut & Sew is the method in which two pieces of fabric are cut then sewn back together using a serger/overlocker which uses an overlocker stitch to create that perfect seam you see on jackets and what not. Its a great medium to incorporate different materials/patterns into the same shirt, almost like a quilt. a great example of this would be the new brand Rip-off and Duplicate from Commonwealth co-owner Omar Quiambao:

Frankly I'm really excited to see brands like the Hundreds, Mama, Cosby, and even Mishka with their upcoming fall line sheet that I was priviledged enough to see are all employing their talents into new mediums. Its refreshing in an arena where it almost seems that another t-shirt brand pops up everyday to now see established brands trying new things, with everything from jackets to button-ups and even shorts.
Prediction: Youre going to see a lot more brands this year rolling out similar ideas in the upcoming seasons.

An Exterrior Impact worthy of Sonny and Ken. I have always loved minimalist window installations. This ones a winner. Their site is www.azitastore.com but bring a grip of Euros....

OBEY THIS...

WK Interact and Obey Giant formed an alliance recently, collaborating on an exhibition called The East/West Propaganda Project, currently up in Japan at Tokyo Wonder Siteand traveling to Paris' Galerie Du Jour Agnès b next. (Sponsored by Agnès b, there's also work by the two artists up at Agnès b's Tokyo store and a clothing line and prints are available there as well.)
Playing on both the different coasts of the U.S. that each call home (WK is NYC-based and Obey operates out of LA) as well as the geographic locations of the two shows, the pair bombed Tokyo together and separately before jointly creating the massive installation.

Wow! Who would have ever thought.....

After working with Yves Saint Laurent and departing to create a new menswear image for Dior Homme, Hedi Slimane will no longer be designing for the renowned line with the hopes of getting his own line started. As understood, negotiations started to go downhill when Slimane's contract ended last July. Dior was willing to back the Hedi Slimane Brand, but Slimane could not see giving up the the ownership of his name.As reported, differences over the estimated value of the Hedi Slimane Brand ultimately caused the stalemate.Dior is looking for the new look of it's men's wear. They have been looking to Kris Van Assche who has previously worked with Slimane for seven years. (Van Assche pictured)

Evisu keep's it real

The United States is set to receive it’s first North American Evisu flagship store this summer in New York’s SOHO district. This new store will give it’s shoppers the ability to acquire products never before available directly to the US public. Much like the Evisu stores in Japan, this new store will provide demonstrations of Evisu’s trademark Gullwing paintings on denim as well as give customers the chance to personalize their own denim.

Although this stores purpose is obviously a retailer first and foremost, it can also be considered an ever evolving gallery of Asian culture as well. There are plans to do exhibitions promoting various Asian artists with inaugural artist being large scale oil painter Simon Birch of Hong Kong. Concluding the list of interactive features is a proposed screening area to give some customers their first taste of Japanese films.

From our Friends at Upper Playground

"SHOW ME YOUR HEART" BY ESTEVAN ORIOL AND YASUMASA YONEHARA
Upper Playground in association with FIFTY24SF Gallery is pleased to present Show Me Your Heart

Never failing to deliver only the best in contemporary art, FIFTY24SF Gallery has brought together internationally-renowned photographers, Estevan Oriol and Yasumasa “Yone” Yonehara, for one highly anticipated exhibit. The show reveals the subcultures of Los Angeles and Tokyo interpreted through two vastly different camera lenses. Though they share the inspiration of beautiful women for this show, each image is a reflection of the artist’s own distinct professional and cultural backgrounds.

Estevan Oriol(www.estevanoriol.com) began his career in the entertainment industry in the late 80s as a club bouncer at several of Los Angeles’ most popular hip hop clubs and infamous Hollywood hangouts. In 1995 he began his exploration of photography, discovering his talent in capturing the raw essence of street life. Within a short time, he became featured in dozens of magazines worldwide including The Source, Details, Vibe, The Fader and Rolling Stone. Oriol is one of the creative directors and partners of SA Studios in Los Angeles, a creative agency he formed with recognized tattoo artist, Mister Cartoon. In addition to exhibiting his photography worldwide, Estevan still finds time to direct music videos for such groups as Cypress Hill, D12, Linkin Park and Blink 182 as well as feature films.

Yasumasa “Yone” Yonehara (www.loveyone.com) is the founder of Egg Magazine, a Japanese photo periodical that features a candid look at ganguro girls on the streets of Japan. He is known for his poloaroids of semi-erotic images of women which has landed him projects with American Apparel and editorals for magazines such as Dazed & Confused, Warp and Vice. As an editor, creative director and photographer, Yone has published numerous books and continues to exhibit worldwide.

Opening Reception: Thursday, April 5, 2007 from 7-9:30 p.m.

Get to know Joe...

As a huge dubstep fan I am thrilled to see some 'spect.

Ty loves your mom....

What does "De Puta Madre" actually mean? To find out, I was able to assemble top lingual experts from Harvard, Princeton, and UDC to discuss the true meaning of the elusive phrase "De Puta Madre" Let's ask the experts....
Actaully...Let's not. Experts always give these 'ivory tower','over the top', and way to complicated answers...So screw em. Let's go to the man on the street...

I decided the best way to learn more about this phrase was to stand on the busy corner of Wisconsin and Mst here in DC. I would simply shout "DE PUTA MADRE" at the top of my lungs and wait for reactions from the crowds...From this experiment I learned that "De Puta Madre" might mean "please look at me with hatred" or "whisper to your friends while pointing at me" one gentleman was so taken with my prose he rushed me only to be stopped by his clearly jealous friends...the jury was still out, there were still too many possiblities. I decided to ask the one person who I trust...my mom. She cleared it up right away by telling me it is a sweet way of saying "Your Mom is Beautiful and Loves You". So to all our readers, clients and staff...
DE PUTA MADRE !

We went South

Yesterday Ruth and I made a trip to the land of milk and honey...The VB. We wanted to peep the stores in the area and get some ideas for future product and cultural events. We had an excellent adventure. While in the stores I had the staff show me thier favorite items and here is what we came up with.

Kristen of Military was a big fan of the new Rocksmith and Jeepney.
(Rocksmith)

(Jeepney)

Heather of Lynnhaven was excited about BB Dakota and Analog

(BB Dakota)

(Analog)

Daimond and Dionne of Military were on point with their love of the new Magazine "Antenna" This rag actually means something to the industry and client alike. The layout is clean, the styles are relevant, the articals are written with more than a bit of thought. I love this Mag. Check thier site at www.antennamag.com/

All the stores we visited looked great. Thanks for the trip.

Style Watch: Sunglasses

Two of my favorite styles of sunglasses are coming back in a big way. The Oakley Frogskins and the RayBan Wayfarer. Everyone from Buddy Holly to the Beastie Boys have worn one style or the other. But be on the lookout for a resurgence of these styles.
Supreme has some Frogskins coming out in April heres a sneak preview

And here are some 80's wayfarers

Dont sleep on this style. Ebay, thrift stores, and even the local sunglass hut can hook you up to some extent.

For those who don't aready know Steven Vogel Book STREET WEAR is dropping. On his book Steven says on his Hypebeast Blog..."What I wanted to achieve with this book is not really that simple to answer with one statement. I wanted to gather all my friends, colleagues and people that have inspired me in one way or other and get them to sit around a table, eat some BBQ and drink beers and talk about our experiences, thoughts, fears, goals and opinions about the subject of streetwear and subsequently this sub culture which has, for all of his, turned from fan, life to work and hopefully still encompasses all these facets." It's Money....

British food is quite possibly the worst food on the planet. One would think that after conquering the vast majority of the world at one point or another, they would have maybe brought something home to eat. But besides curry, it’s all bland, gnarly slop.
On the other hand the British have done an amazing job with culture in general. STOP. I know what you are thinking…”The UK is a bunch of boring people who like to hunt foxes and riot at Manchester United Games.”….Which is absolutely true, except for those who live in London. The Londoner, in general, is one of the best dressed peoples in the world. Take the London based clothing line “MONEY” for example.
I walk through the men’s buying department on a daily basis…I see many, many, many clothing lines and while most are great, rarely do I stop the meeting so I can explore what I am seeing. MONEY stopped me in my tracks. Only two years old, the line has created a revolution in Europe with it’s amazing design and quality standards. With designers from London, Milan and Tokyo, the result is the fanaticism for detail from Japan, Italian obsession with quality, and British irreverence and wit. The result is Money. April Walker, (who has been in the game for a minute, and a big player in the same) is Money’s rep for UATW. She noticed my ‘deer in the headlamps’ gaze at the line and was sweet enough to unpack the whole kit and caboodle for me to peep. The line is honest, down to earth and exquisite. My favorite pieces are the Porno-camo field jacket in pink, and a classic Kelly green hoodie with the Money Brand Gorilla on the back. The majority of the line is priced in a realistic range. The overall line devided into two catagories..."Money Denim" which is good for everyday wear and "Money 750" which are the premium goods and made in numbered lots by some of the best manufacturing houses in the world. Money don't grow on trees....I can't wait till fall. --labor unit23
