3 of 22 in the LBC

Much love to the staff of 22 for thier help with the "I am Up Against the Wall" shoot. Neimen (who is an amazing designer and tailor) made sure all the clothing for the shoot was in tip top shape, and helped style the outfits. Courtney, for holding down the fort and for coming up with a killer location, and the three models; Arlanda (Store manager), Brandon (Asst Mngr) and Adrienne (Sales Asso.). We shot the session on a roof overlooking the stunningly beautiful Port of Long Beach and the QE2. ALIFE, Stussy and BB Dakota were the featured brands. Besides the "perverted wind" incident that plagued the short dresses Adrienne was doing her best to hold down from blowing over her head...the shoot was great. (note to the ladies...the short babydoll dress should be avoided in a wind tunnel) LU23 gp.

Ferry Corsten @ CommanderSalamander

The world understands a few things that come hard to us americans:

1. Soccer (Futbol) is the most exciting sport in the world…Period.
2. Electronic and Trance are both amazing musical styles to party to.
3. Bombing anyone and everyone tends to prevent you from making new friends
4. Wine is an 'every meal' kind of drink
5. A Refrigerator can hold more than Stouffers, Coke Zero, and Nestlé’s Quick.
6. Big SUV's do not equal a larger penis. Ferrari's do.
7. A dinner with friends always beats a trip to Vegas.
8. If bread stays soft after 5 minutes in the open air…it is not very good bread.
9. If it’s individually wrapped and lasts for months in the fridge, it’s not real cheese.
10. Bush is not very eloquent.

I haighlighted number two because Commander Salamander will host one of the top DJ's on the planet for a spin and a meet-n-greet. Ferry Corsten is from The Netherlands and fills huge clubs in all the A-list cities with throngs of sweaty dancing bodies. His music is fast and thick with layers of sound and beats that make you relate to the 808 on levels usually reserved for MDMA junkies. So the date is 6-9, the time is 7:30, the DJ is ferry corsten, the sponsers are iKy Clothing, Scion and Egy Productions. There will be a trunk show featuring Ferry Corsten clothing designed by iKY. Scion will have some new cars there that you can peep. Stop by and have a visit. . LU23

ARC_KRINK.

We will be offering the ALIFE vs. KRINK shirts at many stores soon, and I thought this might be a good opportunity to tell you what they are all about. Alife or Alife Rivington Club is a boutique in NYC that is a spot that has a deep water influence on the fashion culture in general. (i.e. If NYC digs you, the US will dig you sooner or later…) Now Krink is one of my favorite things in the world. It’s not a paint, it’s an Ink that was invented my NYC street painter KR. KR+INK= KRINK. The super wet drippy tags are hard to miss thanks to the fact that KRINK never fades and always looks fresh. (Just ask my wife about the carpet on our basement steps, she’ll tell you all about how much she loves the big silver spot) So ALIFE and KRINK are a perfect collabo, both are amazing. -LU23

Prêt-à-Porter-Sack

Who Doesn't love the environment. Latasha here is leaving a big impression and a zero carbon footprint. Her UATW bag wear could be all the rage on any one of a number of uncharted islands in the south Pacific. Her top is a delightful green shopping bag and a cropped vest hoodie with wooden beads to set them both off. Her bottom is a stunning blue shopping bag that is ruffled at the waist to add depth to the ensamble. Next time you buy clothes...wear the bags, the earth will just want to give you a big old hug. Pop, Lock and Load

Dave Moore and CrazyLegs at M Street.
POP LOCK AND LOAD>

For the 4th year running, hip hop dancers from thousands of miles away made their pilgrimage to the nations capitol to bust some serious moves and make a pathetic joke out of what us common folk call "gravity". Still don't think it's legit? Well maybe you should say something to the Master of Ceremony, Crazy Legs, of the original ROCKSTEADY CREW, South Bronx, one of the founding fathers of b-boy culture who is celebrating his 30th Anniversary as a breaker. Up Against the Wall was a proud sponsor of this event which culminated the rawest skills from as far west as San Diego, south as Orlando, and north as Ottawa to perform in front of a sold out crowd at George Washington University. Dancers continuously blew the minds of spectators incorporating elements of break dancing, gymnastics, ballet, and tap dancing into their disgustingly amazing performances. If somehow you missed this event this year, stop crying all over your shell toes and be sure to catch the event when it returns May 2008. -Dave01mst

It's not Goodwin, its GODWIN

I'm really excited about this brand. The brain child of Geofrey Godwin, GODWIN is our newest foray into the land of up and coming Japanese designers. Godwin is a completely cut and sew collection (No screen printing on American Apparel t's here!), that is complete with numerous Japanese selvage denim offerings. This season is very classic, but the attention to detail and construction is anything but ordinary.

Check out the Spring Lookbook Here: http://godwingenes.com/SP07.html
We reap what they sew. . . .

Peep Yoropiko Please.

A new line of denim by Martin Yat Ming called Yoropiko will be arriving Beverly center. Martin is a former designer of RMC and was the Asian distributor (other than Japan) for Evisu. We are really excited, as it seems Martin has seperated himself from an over crowded pack. The treatments are thoughtful and the overall qaulity is superb. Hypebeast has this to say...“A new denim by Martin Yat Ming. Exclusive collaboration from Martin’s Yoropiko denim and Santastic from Japan. As you can see Yoropiko, rumored to be Martin’s new personal line after the success of RMC denim contains embroided art on them, made with high quality selvedge material. This one just so happens to have flower petals on the back pocket. “A new denim by Martin Yat Ming. Exclusive collaboration from Martin’s Yoropiko denim and Santastic from Japan. Cheap Mondays

Cheap Monday Story

So the story goes, Orjan Andersson began working with jeans 15 years ago, it all started in a Swedish denim store where he sold jeans for about ten years. Branded as a denim expert, he was sought out by the biggest denim brands out there to share his vast knowledge of denim. It was during this time that Orjan set up his own business, a vintage store, with friend Adam Friberg. The store, appropriately named Weekend, was open only Saturdays and Sundays and situated in a suburb of Sweden, off the beaten path that took a true jean fanatic to find.
In April 2002, Orjan and Adam opened a new store in a more centralized location in Stockholm, in addition to vintage they also carried jeans. This time they named the store Weekday -- you guessed it, open 7 days! In the beginning of 2004, Orjan was struck with the idea to create his own denim line as a gift to all Weekday's loyal customers. The result was a pair of dark blue tight unwashed stretch denim jeans. Orjan felt this was something desperately missing in the market - especially for his customers. And it was a jean style that Orjan himself longed for, something to fit his own skinny legs.
Cheap Monday was born and named after the cheapest day of the week when all your money is spent on weekend fun. It also reflects the price tag - Cheap Monday retails for just $65 a pair.
Then the idea of Cheap Monday was introduced to Bjorn Atldax and Karl Grandin who created the skull-logotype, fashioned after a Mexican death mask. Bjorn and Karl were inspired by the book "The October Country" by Ray Bradbury for its mix of medieval Satan worshipping, fishing trips and spooning. They aspire to create a world that is bizarre and strange, but nice. At the same time and perhaps most importantly, Cheap Monday to them is about playing and doing what's fun. Their philosophy for Cheap Monday is that it should be fun to create and fun to wear.
In the beginning of March 2004, the first delivery of 800 pairs of jeans came to Weekday in Stockholm. Orjan couldn't afford the minimum order of 1000 pairs, but he fast-talked the factory into producing 800, way below their requirements. Word spread quickly about the jeans that were tight and cheap, and a month later all jeans were sold out. Then there was a new order for 5000 pairs which should have been delivered in late August, but the delivery was delayed and didn't reach the store until October. Despite the rough start, by the end of fall, there were tons of new orders and the line started to really blow up.
In February 2005, Sanna Atldax joined the team as a designer for Cheap Monday. Prior to this, Sanna designed at H&M for seven years.
At the end of 2004, Cheap Monday decided to sell abroad to other stores similar to Weekday. So the crew got in touch with their friend Mats Andersson who at the time was sales manager of Levi's Red and Vintage for Europe. Mats instantly loved the idea, but also wanted to open Cheap distribution to other stores in Sweden. This was not what they originally intended, but after a very long night of discussions Mats luckily succeeded to persuade them all. Shortly after, Mats contacted the first stores in Sweden. France and Denmark were the next countries to have Cheap Monday in April 2005. The jeans are now found in hundreds of stores all over the world. Fall of 2006, marked Cheap Monday’s arrival to the US market, it’s available at Maxfield, Odin, Ron Herman, Opening Ceremony, Barneys New York, Riccardi, and UP AGAINST THE WALL.

TLFI ESSAY WINNER !!! All were great...

The problem with contests is there are winners and the rest. This time the rest got screwed. All of the essays were great and I am going to post them all over the next week or so. But there can only be one winner and this is it. -- LU23

Mortality gets me out of bed every morning. I'm not the type to get hung on where am I going or why I'm doing it. I'd rather do the wrong thing for the right reason. I'm too stuborn to put on a suit and tie and make a killing. Seriously just got chills thinking about that life. Financial security is really low on my list. All I need is enough money to make an ass outta my self 2 or 3 times a week and look good doing it. I enjoy life. Friends arent always there, love dies. Good times are always somewhere. Hell, if I had it my way I wouldn't have a dime in my pocket when I die.

Don't get me wrong I love money, but its the life I love more. I love going to a stripclub or bar and people know you. Not because you throw money around, because they had an in-fucking-credible time with you. People have too many inhibitions nowadays. Do what makes you happy. Go blow your rent money, You'll figure it out in the morning. You always do. The landlord doesn't need it anyways. That cute bartenders trying to put herself through college, and dammit I'm gonna help her.
